Heavy Rains Claim Five Lives as Roof Collapses in Tarn Taran

Sharing is caring!

Tarn Taran, Punjab | March 1, 2025:

A devastating incident in Punjab’s Tarn Taran district has left an entire family mourning after relentless rains led to a tragic roof collapse. The disaster struck in Pandori Gola village, where a house’s weakened roof caved in, claiming the lives of five family members, including a couple and their three children.

Rescue Efforts and Immediate Response

Upon receiving the distress call, local police from Sadar police station and villagers rushed to the site. They managed to pull out all five individuals from the debris and transported them to the nearest hospital. However, doctors confirmed that they had already succumbed to their injuries.

The heartbreaking incident has cast a wave of sorrow across the village, with grief-stricken relatives and locals expressing both anguish and frustration over the loss.

Cause of the Collapse

Preliminary investigations suggest that the roof, already weakened by continuous rainfall, collapsed due to a dislodged support beam. The excessive moisture had deteriorated the structure, leading to the fatal accident. Officials have launched a formal inquiry to determine further details and assess any potential safety concerns in similar structures.

Community Grieves and Seeks Support

The deceased have been identified as Inder Singh, his wife, and their three children, aged between 17 and 22 years. Their tragic passing has deeply affected the village, where preparations are underway for their final rites.

Residents are urging authorities to provide financial aid to the bereaved family and conduct a structural survey of old and weakened houses in the area to prevent similar tragedies in the future.

Local administration officials have assured that a compensation package will be considered, while experts will assess the structural integrity of vulnerable homes to mitigate risks in the wake of continuous heavy rainfall.
