Haryana, December 6:
Haryana Police used pepper spray on farmers attempting to march towards Delhi as part of the “Delhi Kooch” movement, which began with a group of 101 farmers. The police also instructed media personnel to retreat from the area as the standoff escalated.
The farmers, who began their journey from the Shambhu border, have intensified their protests at the Khanauri border. Police forces, equipped with tear gas shells, are stationed at the checkpoint, although the farmers have yet to announce any plans to push forward beyond the border.
On foot, the farmers crossed two barricades and proceeded with their march. In response, Haryana Police issued a stern warning, urging them to turn back. The next set of barricades is guarded by paramilitary forces. During the crossing, the farmers uprooted the barbed wire and threw police barricades into the Ghaggar River.
The farmers, waving their union and national flags, have faced off with Haryana Police at the Shambhu border. Despite not having permission from the Haryana government, they proceeded with the march after a nine-month-long protest advocating for demands such as Minimum Support Price (MSP), loan waivers, and pensions.
Earlier, farmer leader Sarwan Pandher mentioned that the protesters were carrying salt as a precautionary measure against possible tear gas attacks.
As the tensions escalated, the Haryana Government imposed a temporary internet suspension in Ambala to control the situation.
