Chandigarh, December 17:
The Haryana government has expedited the process of regularizing 1.20 lakh temporary employees in the state. According to the government’s submission in the High Court, appointment letters for permanent positions will be issued to these employees within the next two weeks.
During the hearing of a contempt petition in the Punjab and Haryana High Court, the government informed the court about this development. The petition alleged non-compliance with the High Court’s order dated March 13, which directed the regularization of all temporary employees who have been working for more than 20 years. The government assured the court that the process is in its final stages and that employees will also receive consequential financial benefits.
In November, under the directives of Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, the Chief Secretary’s office had sent a proposal to the Finance Department, which has since been approved. This proposal outlines the plan to regularize employees who have been serving for over two decades.
The High Court has also clarified that if the government fails to complete the appointment process within the stipulated time, the petitioners can request another hearing. For this, each petitioner will need to deposit ₹50,000.
As per data from July 2024, Haryana has 4.5 lakh approved positions, of which 2.7 lakh are filled by regular employees, while 1.8 lakh positions remain vacant. The state currently has 1.25 lakh temporary employees. Ahead of the 2024 assembly elections, the BJP government had announced recruitment for several permanent positions and issued appointment letters to selected candidates. Additionally, a committee of senior IAS officers was formed to devise a policy for regularizing temporary employees.
