Shimla, January 22:
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has registered FIRs numbered 33 and 34 against Vishaldeep, the Assistant Director of the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in Shimla, following allegations of his involvement in a ₹2.5 crore bribery case. The case is connected to a money laundering investigation involving operators of educational institutions in Himachal Pradesh. In connection with this probe, the CBI has also arrested Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Balbir Singh, who has been remanded for a one-day custodial interrogation.
Bribe Demands and Commission Allegations
The case took a dramatic turn when Vishaldeep accused DSP Balbir Singh of demanding a 10% commission on the bribe money. Vishaldeep had filed a formal complaint with the CBI Director and other senior officials, which prompted immediate investigation and led to the arrest of DSP Singh.
Along with Vishaldeep, his brother Vikasdeep and associate Neeraj were also detained during the investigation. The CBI seized approximately ₹1.10 crore from the accused during the probe.
The charges relate to Vishaldeep and his associates allegedly demanding a bribe of ₹2.5 crore from educational institution operators.
Vishaldeep’s Allegations Against DSP Balbir Singh
Before his arrest, Vishaldeep had submitted a detailed 15-page complaint to the CBI Director on January 3, alleging that DSP Balbir Singh, along with two other individuals, had incited him to solicit bribes. According to Vishaldeep, the DSP had been in regular contact with him, including meetings in Mohali and Shimla’s Mall Road, encouraging him to extract money from the operators of educational institutions and take a 10% share of the bribe.
Interrogation and Health Issues
During his remand, Vishaldeep was questioned thoroughly and maintained his stance that he had been falsely implicated by DSP Balbir Singh. Following this, the CBI summoned DSP Singh for questioning. While the DSP denied the allegations, sources revealed that evidence regarding the 10% commission demand was presented during the interrogation.
DSP Singh’s health reportedly deteriorated when confronted with this evidence, requiring medical attention. He was subsequently rushed to Sector 32 hospital for treatment.
