Chandigarh, 17 nov
The Samyukt Kisan Morcha (Non-Political) and Kisan Mazdoor Morcha announced on Saturday that they would intensify their agitation by beginning an indefinite hunger strike from November 26. This move aims to push for various demands, including legal guarantees for Minimum Support Price (MSP).
Addressing the media, SKM (Non-Political) leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal accused the central government of failing to take steps to address their demands. Dallewal stated that he would begin his hunger strike at the Khanauri border on November 26. He added that the central government has not held any discussions with protesting farmers regarding their demands since February 18.
SKM and KMM are leading the farmers’ ‘Delhi Chalo’ march to pressure the government to meet their demands. Protesters have been stationed at the Shambhu and Khanauri borders between Punjab and Haryana since February 13, when security forces stopped their march.
Their demands include implementing the recommendations of the Swaminathan Commission, providing pensions for farmers and agricultural workers, halting electricity rate hikes, withdrawing police cases, ensuring justice for the victims of the 2021 Lakhimpur Kheri violence, restoring the 2013 Land Acquisition Act, and compensating the families of farmers who lost their lives during the 2020-21 protests.
