Shambhu Border, January 16:
Today, farmer leader Sarwan Singh Pander will make several important announcements from Shambhu Border. Pander has appealed that at least one tractor-trolley be sent from each village in Punjab to Shambhu Border. He stated that at 12 PM on Thursday, significant announcements will be made by farmer organizations from Shambhu Border.
He mentioned that some people claim that the Modi government at the Centre will not bow to farmer pressure, but farmer organizations remain firm. Their primary demands include the legal guarantee of MSP and loan waivers for farmers and workers. Additionally, they will demand 200 days of work under NREGA and an increase in workers’ wages.
Pander also condemned the actions of the Haryana Police at the Khanauri Border, which he claimed were being carried out at the behest of the central government, calling them completely unjustified. He warned Haryana Police to halt their actions.
He also pointed out that 111 farmers are peacefully on an indefinite hunger strike, and questioned why Haryana Police would object to this. Furthermore, he said that farmers were charged for protesting against Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Punjab, and these charges should be dropped by the Punjab government. Pander clarified that the farmer’s struggle is with the central government, and the Punjab government should not interfere in the matter.
Pander reiterated that the protest at the borders will continue until there is a change in the central government’s policies, no matter how long it takes or how many sacrifices need to be made.
