The Samyukt Kisan Morcha-led front, consisting of farmers, commission agents, and rice millers, called off their protest over slow paddy procurement after receiving assurances from Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann. The decision came following a meeting between the protesting unions and CM Mann on Saturday.
Farm leader Balbir Singh Rajewal announced the end of the protest after the meeting, which took place after a two-hour discussion at Kisan Bhawan. The protest was sparked by concerns over sluggish paddy procurement, with only 14.30% of paddy lifted from the state’s mandis, causing a backlog.
CM Mann’s assurances addressed the farmers’ concerns, leading to the resolution of the protest.
