Chitkara University’s Department of Fashion Design, part of Chitkara Design School, recently hosted the “EMERGE Graduate Fashion Show 2024,” celebrating the creativity and ingenuity of emerging fashion designers. The event featured 11 student collections that reflected a wide range of styles and concepts, from knitwear and zero-waste designs to heritage Indian textiles, fusion wear, streetwear, athleisure, and avant-garde pieces. Each collection demonstrated a unique approach to fashion, with an emphasis on sustainability, innovation, and fresh design perspectives.
The event attracted prominent figures from the fashion industry, including Ujjawal Dubey, Founder and Creative Director of Antar-Agni, and Yvette Joan Noethen and Javier Reyes, International Recruiters from The Walt Disney Company, underscoring the global importance of the event. The collections were brought to life through choreography, music, and production, all led by the students with guidance from faculty mentors, showcasing Chitkara University’s hands-on, practical approach to education.
Dr. Madhu Chitkara, Pro-Chancellor of Chitkara University, highlighted the importance of fostering creativity and innovation in the fashion industry. She remarked, “Our students are not only being trained in design but are also being equipped with the skills to create sustainable, forward-thinking solutions for the fashion industry. EMERGE offers them a platform to demonstrate their potential and connect with industry leaders globally.”
The evening’s highlight was the announcement of the Best Graduate Collection award, presented to Anshika Gupta for her avant-garde collection, Altered Perspectives. Inspired by organic architecture, Gupta’s collection stood out for its innovative blend of form, function, and sustainable design.
The show also reflected Chitkara University’s commitment to experiential learning, encouraging students to challenge creative limits while preparing them for the evolving demands of the fashion industry.
