Punjab, December 13:
Electricity rates in Punjab may soon rise by up to 10%. Powercom has submitted a proposal to the Punjab State Electricity Regulatory Commission (PSERC) regarding this matter. In its Annual Revenue Requirement (ARR) report sent to the commission, Powercom has cited a total revenue deficit of ₹5091 crore and emphasized the need for a tariff hike to bridge this gap.
This potential increase could deal a significant blow to electricity consumers in Punjab. However, Powercom officials argue that the proposed hike is the lowest in the past 16 years since Powercom’s establishment in 2010.
According to Powercom’s ARR report, the corporation has incurred a revenue deficit of ₹5091 crore over the past few years. For the financial year 2023-24, Powercom required ₹44822.19 crore in revenue but managed to generate only ₹42293.42 crore from all sources, resulting in a deficit of ₹2528.77 crore. Prior to this, Powercom faced a revenue deficit of ₹4072.27 crore.
