Sharing is caring!

Chandigarh, February 13:

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has registered an FIR against seven Chandigarh Police officials, including a Crime Branch inspector, in connection with the alleged kidnapping of Dr. Mohit Dhawan, a dentist residing in Sector 21, Chandigarh. The accused officials include Inspector Harinder Singh Sekhon, Sub-Inspector Suresh Kumar, ASI Ajmer Singh alias Amitoj Singh, Head Constable Anil Kumar, Constable Vikas Hooda, Constable Subhash, and Constable Neeraj Kumar.

CBI Investigation and Internal Disruption in the Police Department

According to sources, CBI officials visited the residences of four of the accused officers on Wednesday, sparking discussions within the police department. Previously, the CBI had summoned Inspector Harinder Singh Sekhon and other officers for questioning at their Sector-30 office, where they were interrogated for several hours.

How Did Dr. Mohit Dhawan’s Alleged Kidnapping Happen?

Chandigarh Police had filed a case against Dr. Mohit Dhawan, prompting him to seek bail from the High Court. The court granted him interim relief and directed him to appear before a magistrate by 11 AM on January 7, 2022.

Dr. Dhawan alleged that when he reached the court premises, ASI Ajmer Singh, Constable Vikas Hooda, Head Constable Anil Kumar, and Constable Subhash forcibly picked him up near the main gate and took him away in a vehicle. He claimed they kept driving him around without informing the court of his whereabouts, resulting in his absence being recorded in court. Later, the police arrested him, justifying their actions by citing a fraud case registered against him at the Sector-19 police station.

The case eventually reached the Supreme Court, which ordered a CBI investigation into Dr. Dhawan’s allegations.

Inspector Sekhon’s History of Allegations

Inspector Harinder Singh Sekhon has been linked to multiple controversies in the past. Last year, his name surfaced in a bribery case involving the arrest of two Chandigarh Police constables and two businessmen by the CBI. However, investigators could not find concrete evidence against him at the time.

Later, the CBI registered a disproportionate assets (DA) case against Sekhon and his wife. Their financial records from February 1, 2017, to February 28, 2021, were scrutinized, revealing that their assets had grown by 80.30% beyond their declared income.

What’s Next?

With the CBI investigation underway, all seven police officials named in the FIR are under scrutiny. Further action will depend on the agency’s findings as it examines various aspects of the case.
