Chandigarh, February 8, 2025:
The Chandigarh Traffic Police has compiled a list of habitual traffic violators, including several individuals who have repeatedly broken traffic rules. Among them, one driver has a staggering 222 challans against his name.
This driver jumped red lights 44 times, exceeded speed limits 168 times, and violated various other traffic norms. The Traffic Police submitted a report on his violations to the Regional Transport Authority (RLA) and the court. In response, the court imposed a ₹43,000 fine and handed down an unusual punishment—15 days of community service, during which the offender must stand at traffic signals and ensure rule compliance.
More Cases Presented in Court
The Traffic Police has also submitted a list of 10 other habitual offenders to the court, who have repeatedly violated traffic rules. The court is set to hear these cases on February 17 and determine appropriate penalties.
Over 411 Challans on a Single Bike
A bike in Chandigarh has accumulated more than 411 challans. This vehicle is registered at Sector-26 Police Lines. Due to the excessive number of violations, the RLA office in Sector-17 has blocked all services related to this vehicle.
Action Against Vehicles from Neighboring States
Chandigarh sees daily traffic from Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, and other states, many of which have outstanding challans. To enforce compliance, the RLA has used the National Vehicle Portal under the Motor Vehicle Act to restrict services for these vehicles.
Now, vehicle owners from other states will be required to clear all pending challans before availing any vehicle-related services. This measure aims to ensure that all drivers follow traffic rules and regulations.
