Counting Set to Begin Today

All arrangements have been made for the counting of votes for the city Lok Sabha seat at the Chandigarh College of Engineering and Technology (CCET), Sector 26. The day will decide the fate of 19 candidates in the fray. The main contest is between BJP’s first-timer Sanjay Tandon and Congress’ two-time MP Manish Tewari, who had earlier represented Ludhiana and Anandpur Sahib parliamentary seats.

All preparations have been finalized for the vote counting of the city Lok Sabha seat at the Chandigarh College of Engineering and Technology (CCET), Sector 26. The process will determine the outcome for 19 candidates, with the primary contest between BJP’s Sanjay Tandon and Congress’ Manish Tewari.

A total of 4,48,547 electors cast their votes out of 6,59,805 registered voters on June 1. Among the 3,41,544 male voters, 68.67% (2,34,525) exercised their franchise. Similarly, 67.25% (2,13,995) of the 3,18,226 female voters cast their votes. Out of 35 transgender voters, 77.14% (27) voted.

Chief Electoral Officer Dr. Vijay Namdeorao Zade confirmed that the counting will adhere to the Election Commission of India’s procedures, taking place at CCET. Two halls with 42 counting tables have been designated, ensuring an efficient counting process expected to span 15 rounds.

Special provisions have been made for the electronically transmitted postal ballot system (ETPBS), with six tables dedicated to counting these ballots. Counting of postal ballots will commence at 8 am, followed by EVM votes at 8:30 am.

To maintain transparency, a “Media Centre,” a “Communication Room,” and a room for the observer have been set up. Mobile phones and electronic devices are prohibited in the counting room.

The setup has been designed to ensure a smooth and systematic counting process, with all political parties informed of the arrangements.
