Delhi, January 29:
Ahead of the Delhi Assembly elections, the Congress party on Wednesday launched its manifesto, making a series of key promises if it is elected to power in the National Capital. A major highlight of the manifesto is the promise to conduct a caste census and establish a dedicated ministry for Purvanchalis.
The party, which lost power to the AAP in 2013, has promised a range of welfare measures, including a monthly allowance of Rs 2,500 for women, free electricity for up to 300 units, and LPG cylinders at Rs 500.
In addition, Congress has committed to providing free health insurance of up to Rs 25 lakh and free ration kits to eligible citizens.
The manifesto, which covers 22 distinct focus areas, was unveiled by Delhi Congress president Devender Yadav, with Congress communications in-charge Jairam Ramesh by his side.
Another significant promise includes financial support of Rs 8,500 per month for educated unemployed youth for one year. The party also proposed the establishment of 100 Indira canteens across the city, offering meals at a nominal price of Rs 5.
Jairam Ramesh, while addressing the media, targeted both the BJP-led Central Government and the AAP-led Delhi Government over their failure to address the worsening pollution crisis in the city.
Delhi will head to the polls on February 5, with the results scheduled to be announced on February 8.
