Chandigarh, December 10:
Chandigarh Pradesh Congress will march towards Punjab Raj Bhawan and gherao it on 14th December to register its protest against the privatisation of electricity department as this will heavily burden the residents of Chandigarh and their electricity bills will raise manifold which is an attempt to loot the general public and favour a private company and this will not be tolerated by the Congress party and it will oppose this move tooth and nail. Chandigarh Pradesh Congress President H s Lucky today appealed all the Resident welfare associations, political parties, Municipal councillors , Industrialists shopkeepers and all stakeholders to join this march . Lucky also urged the Administator Chandigarh Gulab Chand Kataria to immediately scrap the privatisation deal of electricity department Chandigarh to Eminant company . The Administator is a seasoned politician and has been in public life for years and will understand the gravity of this issue and expected to do justice.
There are gross irregularities in this deal and the Congress party stands firmly to protect the interests of the residents and employees at the same time. He said it was shocking to learn that a tainted company was given this deal after out of way accommodating it. Various gross irregularities have occurred in this deal. It is unbelievable that no global tendering was done and instead of line tender was called whereas tender above 10 lacs need to be called online. The present company was given a special opportunity to participate by recalling the tender. The ut power department has been in profit and doing good service in chandigarh without any major complaints. It was surprising that such profit making department is now being given to a company which has no experience in handling power distribution and all the assets are being transferred at a throwaway price of Rs 1 . Which goes to show the ulterior motive to benefit the said company.
Lucky further said that the electricity rates were amongst the lowest in Chandigarh and handing over the department to the company will put a lot of burden on the residents of Chandigarh and the electricity bills of the residents are going to be a shocker in the coming days. Lowest rate of domestic unit now being 2.75 paise upto 300 units in 2 months. Which will rise manifold and would be determental to the interests of general public of chandigarh.
Keeping this in view the Administator should immediately scrap this deal in public and national interest added Lucky. Here it may be remembered that Chandigarh MP Manish Tewari has also supported the cause of UT powermen union and raised this issue.
