Chandigarh, December 31:
With the New Year fast approaching, the Chandigarh Police have ramped up their security and traffic control measures to ensure a smooth and safe celebration across key venues in the city. The police force has deployed an extensive team to manage the celebrations while prioritizing public safety.
Key Celebration Spots in Chandigarh Under Surveillance
Major celebration locations, including Plaza Sector-17, Elante Mall, Aroma Sector-22, and several hotels in Sectors 7, 8, 9, 26, 35, 43, and 22, will be closely monitored during the festivities. Authorities have identified these areas as high-traffic zones, expecting large crowds for New Year’s Eve events.
Heavy Police Deployment to Ensure Safety
To maintain public order, the Chandigarh Police will deploy over 1,500 officers, including 13 Gazetted Officers (GOs), 16 Station House Officers (SHOs), and 19 Inspectors. Along with routine patrolling, the police will set up 44 internal and 18 outer nakas across the city, ensuring swift action if needed.
Special Focus on Emergency Response
The police have mobilized emergency teams, including 6 ambulances, 5 fire tenders, 3 hydraulic ladders, and 6 Aska lights, to handle any incidents. Quick Response Teams (QRTs) will also be stationed at strategic locations. Special anti-sabotage checks are being conducted at all major celebration venues to address any potential threats to security.
Traffic Restrictions to Ensure Smooth Movement
Traffic flow will be carefully managed around celebration hotspots. The internal roads of Sectors 7, 8, 9, 10, and 11 will be restricted to residents only. To minimize congestion, special traffic diversions will be implemented during the busiest hours of the evening.
Women’s Safety Priority
A Lady Squad, led by L/Insp. Paramjit Kaur, will be deployed to assist women throughout the evening. Eight PCR vehicles with female officers will be stationed at various locations, ready to provide pick-up and drop-off services for women in need.
The Chandigarh Police are urging citizens to cooperate with law enforcement officers and follow all traffic advisories. With these measures in place, the city is set for a safe and festive start to the New Year.
