Chandigarh, January 25:
The nomination process for the positions of Mayor, Senior Deputy Mayor, and Deputy Mayor in Chandigarh began today. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has declared Councillor Premlata as their candidate for the Mayor’s post. However, her nomination has caused some discontent among a few Congress councillors. While they have not openly expressed their dissatisfaction, sources suggest that during a meeting at Punjab Bhawan, when Premlata’s name was announced, both Congress and AAP councillors voiced their displeasure.
Congress has already announced its candidates for the Senior Deputy Mayor and Deputy Mayor positions. Meanwhile, the BJP is expected to submit their nominations at 2 PM today. All major candidates are arriving to submit their nominations.
The BJP has already declared its candidates, with Councillor Harpreet Kaur Babla as their candidate for Mayor, Vimla Dubey for Senior Deputy Mayor, and Lakhbir Singh for Deputy Mayor. Congress has also announced its candidates, with Jasbir Singh Banti for Senior Deputy Mayor and Taruna Mehta for Deputy Mayor.
The Aam Aadmi Party has not yet announced its Mayor candidate, but party leaders have stated that they will reveal their nominee at 1:30 PM during the nomination submission.
