Chandigarh, January 9:
The Chandigarh Labour Commissioner has announced a wage increase for workers in both the organized and unorganized sectors under the Minimum Wages Act, 1948. This increase applies to the period from October 1, 2024, to March 31, 2025, providing much-needed relief for those earning minimum wages.
According to the Labour Bureau, Chandigarh, the average Cost of Living Index (CLI) for the city from April to September 2024 stands at 2185 points, marking an increase of 44 points from the previous CLI of 2141 points recorded in March 2024.
For monthly-rated employees, the minimum wage adjustment will be ₹7 per point increase, resulting in a ₹308 hike in the minimum wages per month, reflecting the rise of 44 points in the Cost of Living Index.
The updated wage rates for both monthly and daily workers, effective from October 1, 2024, to March 31, 2025, are available in the official notification, which can be accessed through the Chandigarh administration’s website: https://chandigarh.gov.in/information/public-notices.
