Chandigarh, January 18:
The Chandigarh Administration has announced plans to conduct a new demand survey for the Sector 53 housing scheme, offering renewed hope for prospective residents.
During a recent meeting, Chief Secretary Rajeev Verma, who also serves as the Chairman of the Chandigarh Housing Board, raised concerns about the validity of the earlier demand survey conducted in 2018. He instructed officials to initiate a fresh survey to assess the current demand accurately.
The decision followed a detailed presentation on the Sector 53 housing scheme by officials of the Chandigarh Housing Board. Questioning the relevance of the 2018 survey, Verma emphasized the need for updated data and directed the team to finalize the survey results before presenting the findings to UT Administrator Gulab Chand Kataria.
The housing scheme in Sector 53 had been put on hold under the directives of then Chandigarh Administrator Banwarilal Purohit. In November 2024, Kataria had instructed the officials to prepare a revised presentation by the end of December.
In February 2024, the proposal for a General Housing Scheme in Sector 53 was approved by the then adviser, which included plans for four-bedroom flats on the same piece of land.
This move to conduct a fresh demand survey aims to ensure the scheme aligns with current requirements, paving the way for its potential launch.
