Faridkot (Punjab), February 18:
A tragic road accident in Punjab’s Faridkot district claimed the lives of six people, while several others sustained severe injuries when a private bus veered off the road and fell into a drain on Tuesday morning, officials reported.
The mishap occurred on the Kotkapura-Faridkot road when the passenger bus, traveling at high speed, collided with a truck carrying goods. Due to the impact, the driver lost control, causing the vehicle to plunge from a bridge into the water below.
Emergency responders rushed the injured passengers to Guru Gobind Singh Medical College and Hospital in Faridkot for urgent medical attention.
Authorities confirmed that the bus belonged to New Deep Bus Service, a transport company linked to Gidderbaha’s AAP MLA, Dimpy Dhillon.
Preliminary investigations suggested that speeding might have played a role in the accident.
Eyewitnesses recounted that the bus driver lost control following the crash, leading to the vehicle’s fall.
Rescue teams were actively working at the site, attempting to retrieve the submerged bus. Senior district officials and police personnel arrived at the scene to oversee the rescue operations and assess the situation.
