Delhi, February 19:
The wait for Delhi’s next Chief Minister is set to end today as the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) holds a crucial legislature party meeting to finalize its leader. This decision comes ten days after the party’s landslide victory in the Assembly elections.
According to sources within the BJP, the meeting is scheduled for 6 PM, after which the name of the new CM will be officially declared.
The swearing-in ceremony is planned for February 20 at 4:30 PM at Ramlila Maidan, with several top BJP leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Ministers from BJP-led states, expected to be present.
Preparations for the grand event are underway, with BJP MP Yogendra Chandolia calling it a “historic occasion” as the party returns to power in Delhi after nearly three decades. The guest list is expected to include over 50 renowned figures from the entertainment industry, business sector, and diplomatic community. Prominent spiritual leaders such as Baba Ramdev, Swami Chidananda, and Baba Bageshwar Dhirendra Shastri are also likely to attend. The celebrations may feature musical performances by well-known artists, including singer Kailash Kher.
In a notable political gesture, BJP leaders have indicated that former CM Arvind Kejriwal and other AAP leaders might be invited to the swearing-in ceremony.
Although the BJP has not officially revealed its CM candidate, names like Parvesh Verma, Vijender Gupta, and Satish Upadhyay are being widely speculated. Insiders suggest that the party will aim to strike a balance between experienced leadership and youthful energy while ensuring representation from key communities across Delhi.
With the final announcement just hours away, the capital eagerly awaits its new leader in what marks a significant political shift.
