The brutal murder of journalist Mukesh Chandrakar in Bijapur, Chhattisgarh, has reignited concerns about journalist safety across the country. Mukesh was killed after exposing corruption in road construction projects, sending shockwaves through the nation. In response, the state government has promised swift action against the culprits. Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai has also made a significant announcement regarding journalist safety.
Journalist Safety Law to be Introduced in Chhattisgarh
During his visit to Gariaband on Sunday, Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai declared that the state will soon implement a “Journalist Safety Law” to ensure the security of journalists. He stated, “The government has acted promptly in the murder case of Mukesh Chandrakar. The culprits will not be spared under any circumstances. At the same time, we are committed to safeguarding journalists and enabling them to work fearlessly.”
The Chief Minister emphasized his government’s dedication to protecting journalists. He assured that this new law will be a vital step in creating a safe environment for media professionals.
SIT Formed, Investigation Accelerated
To ensure a thorough investigation into the case, the government has constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT). The Chief Minister mentioned that the case is being handled with utmost seriousness. Following the incident, journalist organizations across the country demanded strict punishment for the perpetrators, and the government has taken decisive action in this regard.
Main Accused Arrested
The main accused and mastermind behind the murder, Suresh Chandrakar, was arrested from Hyderabad on the night of January 5 by the SIT. This major breakthrough in the investigation follows the earlier arrests of three other suspects. All the accused are currently being interrogated to gather more details about the crime.
