Chandigarh, 21 December.

Chandigarh Tricity Cab Driver Union President Amandeep Singh was on a fast unto death for 5 days at Sector 25 ground to get the demands of the union accepted.

Union convenor Sumit Chhabra said that a delegation of union met former state BJP president and former mayor Arun Sood three days ago regarding their demands and requested for help. Sood met Union President Amandeep Singh on the second day who was on fast unto death and assured him that he would soon talk to the administration in this regard. He requested Amandeep Singh to end his fast due to his poor health and got him admitted to the Government Hospital in Sector 16 on the same night where his treatment started.

Late last night, on behalf of the administration, Amit Kumar Secretary State Transport Authority, Naveen Rattu SDM Central and DSP Central came to Sector 25 ground and talked to the union and assured them of their main demands i.e. issue of notification of cab aggregator policy by January 15, increase in cab fare by Rs 20 per kilometer on the lines of Delhi. On this, the union demanded that the price of CNG in Delhi is Rs 73 per kg and the same price in Chandigarh is Rs 95, so this minimum rate should be increased by more than Rs 20 in proportion to the difference in CNG rate.

And they demanded that a formula should be made for fare increase so that no one is harmed and it should be revised every year by linking it with inflation.
After this, Arun Sood, Amit Kumar, Naveen Rattu and DSP Central ended the fast unto death of Amandeep Singh by giving him juice.

Sumit Chhabra thanked the administration for accepting the demands of the union and Arun Sood for supporting them in their struggle and expressed hope that the demands of the union will be met in a timely manner as assured so that the union does not have to resort to the path of struggle again.
