Chandigarh, December 24:

The Chandigarh Municipal Corporation meeting became a center of political turmoil and chaos on Tuesday. Congress and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) councillors raised posters in the house accusing BJP councillor Anil Masih of being a “vote thief” and chanted slogans. In response, Masih stormed into the well of the house and retaliated, stating that several Congress leaders, including Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi, were out on bail.

This statement further escalated the situation. Congress and AAP councillors approached Masih and began waving posters again. BJP councillors attempted to snatch the posters, leading to a scuffle in the house. Congress councillor Gurpreet Singh Gabi accused BJP senior deputy mayor Kuljeet Singh Sandhu of trying to snatch the poster from his hand.

At the start of the meeting, Congress demanded an apology from Union Home Minister Amit Shah for his remarks on Dr. B.R. Ambedkar. Congress and AAP councillors chanted slogans and demanded a resolution against Shah. In response, BJP councillors reminded Congress that during Nehru’s time, Ambedkar had been insulted.

Additionally, AAP and Congress councillors protested against the privatization of the electricity department, leading to a sharp debate on this issue in the house.

The chaos and scuffling during the meeting disrupted the proceedings. The session ended without any concrete outcomes, but this incident is likely to remain a topic of discussion in Chandigarh’s political circles for a long time.”
