Hyderabad, December 13:
Hyderabad Police detained Tollywood star Allu Arjun on Friday in connection with a stampede during the premiere of Pushpa 2: The Rule at Sandhya Theatre on December 4.
The incident resulted in the tragic death of a woman and left her son critically injured. The police from Chikkadpally Police Station took Allu Arjun into custody at his residence in Jubilee Hills and transported him to the station for further investigation.
Allu Arjun’s father, prominent filmmaker Allu Aravind, and other family members were present during his detention.
A case was filed under sections 105 (Culpable homicide not amounting to murder), 118(1) (Voluntarily causing hurt), and 3(5) BNS against the actor, his security personnel, and the theatre’s management. This case was registered on December 5, following a complaint lodged by the husband of the deceased woman.
On December 8, authorities arrested the theatre owner, general manager, and security manager. Subsequently, Allu Arjun sought intervention from the Telangana High Court on December 11, requesting the First Information Report (FIR) be quashed.
According to the police, the theatre management and Allu Arjun’s team did not notify authorities about the actor’s attendance at the event. Furthermore, no additional security measures were implemented to handle the anticipated crowd.
In response to the tragedy, Allu Arjun publicly expressed his grief on December 6 and announced financial support of Rs 25 lakh for the deceased woman’s family. He also committed to covering the medical expenses of the injured boy.
In a statement shared on the social media platform X, he wrote:
“I am deeply heartbroken by the tragic incident at Sandhya Theatre. My heartfelt condolences to the grieving family during this unimaginably difficult time. I assure them they are not alone in their pain and will personally meet them to offer support. While respecting their need for privacy, I remain dedicated to providing all possible assistance to help them through this challenging period.”
The actor also pledged to extend personal and financial support to the affected family, emphasizing his commitment to aiding them in every way possible.
