Punjab, January 11
AAP MLA Gurpreet Bassi Gogi, representing the Ludhiana West constituency, tragically passed away due to a gunshot injury. The incident occurred around midnight on Friday. Preliminary investigations suggest that Gogi was cleaning his licensed pistol at home when it accidentally discharged. The bullet went through his head.
Family members and police personnel immediately rushed him to Dayanand Medical Hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival. Upon learning about the incident, Deputy Commissioner Jitendra Jorwal and Police Commissioner Kuldeep Chahal visited the hospital and later went to Gogi’s residence.
ADCP Jaskaran Singh Teja stated that the firearm involved was a .25 bore pistol. He mentioned that it is too early to determine the exact circumstances of the incident. Initial findings reveal that a single gunshot was heard, as reported by a domestic worker in the kitchen. No signs of depression or distress have emerged during the investigation. It was also noted that Gogi had a regular meal before the incident.
After the post-mortem examination, the body will be handed over to the family. Gurpreet Bassi Gogi’s final rites will be performed at 3 PM at the cremation ground near KVM School in Ludhiana.
