Karnataka, January 22:
In a tragic incident early Wednesday, eight individuals lost their lives, and ten others sustained injuries when the truck they were travelling in fell into a 50-metre-deep valley.
The accident occurred on the Savanur-Hubballi road in a forested area. The victims, all fruit vendors, were en route to the Yellapura fair after starting their journey from Savanur, according to Uttara Kannada Superintendent of Police, M. Narayana.
The SP explained that the incident took place around 5:30 am. The truck driver, while attempting to make way for another vehicle, moved too far to the left, causing the truck to plunge into the valley.
“There was no protective wall along the road,” Narayana stated.
The officer further confirmed that eight individuals died instantly, while two others sustained critical injuries. The injured were promptly transported to KIMS Hospital in Hubballi for treatment.
