Amritsar, February 5:
As part of a crackdown on illegal immigrants, 205 Indian nationals are being deported from the United States. The special flight carrying them is scheduled to land at Sri Guru Ram Das Ji International Airport, Amritsar, today at 1 PM. Upon arrival, administrative officials will verify their documents before allowing them to return to their homes.
A C-17 aircraft of the US Army took off from San Antonio on Tuesday, carrying these deported individuals. They were recently detained by US authorities. As per Indian time, the flight is expected to land at 9 AM on Wednesday. Immigration checks will be conducted upon arrival, and officials will also verify whether any of the deportees have pending criminal cases in Punjab. If any such cases are found, immediate arrests will be made.
Illegal Entry Through Donkey Route
All deported individuals reportedly used illegal immigration channels, commonly known as the “donkey route,” to enter the US. Human traffickers charge each person ₹35 to ₹40 lakh for facilitating entry through dense forests and dangerous terrains in Mexico, Panama, and other countries. Many migrants do not survive the journey due to hunger, exhaustion, or harsh conditions.
Authorities are closely monitoring the situation, and after completing the necessary document verification, appropriate legal procedures will be followed.
